My Portfolio
Welcome to my portfolio! Explore my work for various publications to learn more about what I do.

Nantucket Current is an independent, local magazine based on Nantucket, Massachusetts - my hometown. I began working at the Current as an intern beginning the summer of 2023 and returned for the 2024 season.
At the Current, I have worked to inform the local community on events and news, especially relating to people, lifestyle, entertainment, and climate. I've learned about the editorial process, including running the events section of a newsletter that comes out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday where I communicate with local businesses and continually stay up-to-date on their websites.

This past summer, I worked with the immensely talented Charity Grace Mofsen Photography, where we collaborated on weekly stories highlighting a member of the local community. I helped reach out to interviewees, scheduled and attended in-person interviews, and wrote profile-length feature articles weekly to shine light on members of our community who deserve to have their stories told. I'm very proud of this series, and hope to continue it in the future.
Since February 2023, I’ve been a site writer for Jerk Magazine at Syracuse University, diving into the heart of campus life and culture. Joining Jerk wasn’t just about writing—it was about breaking out of the typical writing mold and experimenting with a voice that’s real, witty, and relatable. Through my work, I've had the chance to connect with readers on topics that matter, from lifestyle and pop culture to the quirks of college life, all while learning the ins and outs of pitching, editing, and crafting stories that resonate.
I started with UGirl as a writer in Fall 2022, learning to pitch, write, and edit to align with the magazine’s unique voice. The following semester, I became the College Life editor, which expanded my responsibilities and connected me with even more team members. This role gave me hands-on experience in editorial processes and fostered a new appreciation for team collaboration.
For the next two semesters, I stepped up as the Sex and Relationships editor, which challenged me to go beyond my comfort zone, addressing topics that deeply resonate with readers. Now, as one of the Style editors, I’m exploring a fresh category of writing. Each role has deepened my passion for editing—it’s rewarding not just for me, but for the writers I work with, as we build a collaborative and supportive process that I hope to prioritize in my future career.

After a professor recommended I join The NewsHouse team, I became the co-lead producer for the Entertainment and Life & Style sections. As a fully digital publication, I've learned how to optimize content for the website, including using WordPress and SEO. Working for The NewsHouse has given me insight into working in a real-world newsroom, where each producer works together to assign, create, and edit content.

I took the class Mobile and Social Media Journalism as my Newhouse capstone in the fall of 2024, where I was introduced to NCC News. Each story package we produced was pitched and edited for publication on NCC News, which focuses on local CNY and Syracuse news. After stories were edited, I prepared them for publication on the NCC News website through WordPress, and each story included multimedia elements including photo and video, which were also published along with each story.

I have had one story published on Edible Jersey, and it's one that I remain immensely proud of, and was actually my college essay back in 2021. It's a story about my grandparents, specifically my grandma, Ema, and how she maintains a connection to her home and culture through the traditional Vietnamese soup, pho, which she has shared with my entire family to teach us about our heritage.

I recently wrote a letter for If You're Reading This.org, a mental health community that empowers students to build and tap into their support networks by amplifying the faces and stories of school communities. While it was hard to share a story so personal to me, it meant so much for me to combine my passion for the conversation surrounding mental health with my writing, and I hope that this letter helps anyone who may come across it.
